Fernando Perez – 3rd Degree Black Belt

I was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and my family moved to America when I was 12 years old. I attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, married a wonderful gal and we have two grown children.

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been with Whole Armor Martial Arts for almost 15 years. Although I had been involved in various martial arts over the years, I had quit in favor of training for triathlons, and once I got married and started working a “real” job, was pretty much done with anything athletic except for running.

It wasn’t until my oldest son wanted to try Karate that I ever thought of starting back up myself. I was in my late thirties but wanted to do something together as a father-son activity and thought it would be fun.

Well, I am now a 3rd degree Black Belt, and am still at it. I may not be as fast or as flexible as I used to be, but if I can put one foot in front of the other one then I can continue practicing and learning. Getting my Black Belt was an unbelievable experience, but the real learning doesn’t start until then. Karate is more than just kicks and punches, and our WAMA Christian-based curriculum teaches you about life itself. I always enjoy our Bible study time in class as well as our Instructor’s perspective.
